Rumors of looming energy crisis have begun as gasoline prices near record highs. The price of gas has been increasing for weeks, causing ripple effects throughout numerous sectors of the economy. Given the rate at which the price is increasing, it probably will not be slowing anytime soon, either. Post resource – Energy crisis jitters hit as gas prices approach record high by MoneyBlogNewz.

Price of gasoline easily rises 20 cents

The nationwide average cost of a gallon of gasoline has risen by almost 20 cents in the past few weeks. Between March 18 and April 8, gasoline went from $3.57 to $3.76 nationwide according to Reuters. A single dollar increase in gasoline has occurred over the past year. The current record for gas costs in the U.S. was set in July of 2008, at $4.11 per gallon. The prices have risen higher than that now. California, according to CBS, has already reached a statewide average of $4.14 per gallon as of April 8.

Airlines are being impacted also

CNN has reported that jet fuel is increasing also and air travel is impacted. The increase in the price of petroleum has brought on jet fuel to rise to about $112 a barrel. The record was in 2008, when the cost of oil hit $150 per barrel and airlines took an enormous hit to their bottom lines. Shares of major airlines have begun to fall on stock markets due to the increasing cost of oil. On April 8, the stock price of Delta fell by 4 percent, Jet Blue fell by 5 percent and UnitedContinental stock fell by almost 7 percent. The conflict in the middle east indicates to experts that gasoline prices are not going to lower any time soon. As the price of fuel continues to rise, you can expect airfare tickets to increase also.

The consumers are pinching pennies

Customers want to do something about the increase in price. The Daily Finance states that 70 percent of the nation’s gas stations have reported drops in sales. So although costs are rising, sales are decreasing. People are beginning to cut back on the amount of gas they purchase and trade in less fuel efficient vehicles for economically friendly gasoline sippers. According to USA Today, hybrid automobiles sales this year alone have increased by 37 percent. The increase in price is leading to lower demand, as fewer individuals are willing to pay the increased cost of fuel.

Oil prices are soaring and gas costs are approaching amounts not seen since the summer of 2008. There’s plenty of gas to go around in the U.S. However costs have risen 21 percent since January due to speculation depending on fear. But the law of supply and demand is anticipated to prevail when consumers can no longer afford to sustain demand for gasoline. Resource for this article – Oil and gas destined to fall as prices pinch consumer demand by MoneyBlogNewz.

Various oil costs still

In early trading Friday light, sweet crude for May delivery rose to $111.90 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, the highest level since Sept 2008. This week, gas costs were an average of $3.70 a gallon. That is the highest also since 2008, the summer anyway. Many studied the rise in oil costs. There were several factors that brought on it. A looming government shutdown is weakening the dollar, which makes dollar-based commodities for instance crude oil more affordable for traders betting with other currencies. The markets are also betting the conflict in Libya won’t end in the near future; Libya has reduced its oil production of 1.3 million barrels a day to a trickle. Each day it seems increasingly more customers are willing to pay the additional few cents for gas. The U.S. is awash in oil because of this. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, United States oil inventories rose by 2 million barrels in the week ending April 1. The crude refinery put in many barrels also. It was over 14 billion each day.

Forgetting about supply and demand

OPEC does not seem to be involved in oil shocks any longer, which the U.S. used to blame. At an oil conference in Paris, the oil minister of the United Arab Emirates said that there is little OPEC can do to control costs. Mohammed bin Dhaen al-Hamli said that OPEC is providing the market with the oil it needs. The only reason for oil prices rising is due to traders. They are betting on a worst case scenario instead of paying attention to the facts. The zero rates of interest from the Federal Reserve for hedge funds and pension funds are not helping. This just allows them to bet easier. Analysts estimate that due to speculators, oil futures are $15 to $20 increased than they should be. Costs may be driven up even further with violence in Nigeria along with the elections this weekend. The country produces 2.2 million barrels a day.

Oil tipping point

There are signs that gas and oil costs have risen to a level that U.S. customers can no longer afford. In just the last four weeks, there has been a 3.7 percent drop in gas demand. There’s a tipping point that could soon be reached for gas and oil costs. This is unless another issue such as a war in Nigeria or in the Middle East occurs. Oil was around $90 a barrel until the second quantitative easing plan (QE2) started to fail the Fed had in place. The whole plan might change in June when the QE2 ends. This might end up leaving crude oil around $85 to $95 a barrel total.

The role of “Parameters” is to prevent the “Negative” “Build up” of “Energies” in Economy and in these way oversee and avoid catastrophic Economic recessions.

The main difference of such parameters to the already used tools of Economics is more practical and purely technical approach promoted by this research and the political and ideological approach used until now by the real Economics.

Example #One: The Real Estate bust provoking the Last Recession could be prevented if proper regulations were implemented.

Before you get into an MLM business, it’s a good idea to know what you’re getting yourself into. Here’s more or less what you can expect:

You’ll be referred to as distributors (or associates, independent business owners, dealers, franchise owners, sales consultants, consultants, independent agents), but basically it’s the same thing. You’ll represent a company that produces a product or provides a service and get a commission based on the volume of products you and your downline sell.

The concept is also easily illustrated in replacement toner cartridges. If you have any sort of printer you’ll have noticed that there is a vast amount of manufacturing that goes into the average toner cartridge – the vast majority of which is discarded when the ink runs out. In more economic naive days these cartridges had little plugs which you could open and refill with ink alas no more.

Example #Two: The subsidies of the Auto industry by the US Government most recently is turning them around.

Hence, subsidizing industries as a tool of Economics could effect Economy in different ways under different circumstances.

Many more examples could be given to prove that same tools of economics could have different effect on the processes in the real economy under different circumstances, therefore to govern and regulate the economy in static ways could prevent growth in economy under some conditions and provoke recessions instead under different conditions. Thus, the parameters of economics should be flexible to reflect the changes in the real economy: from one side not to limit growth under proper conditions and from another side to raise flags and prevent overextension and the following recessions under different conditions.

All these manufacturers produce ‘green friendly’ schemes to replace or recycle your cartridges in order to portray themselves as eco friendly. The fact is that it takes 2-3 liters of oil to produce an average laser toner cartridge – if you throw it away another has to be produced. Almost all the cartridges could be reused with a little ink top up and the number of new and re-manufactured cartridges would instantly fall – I don’t know what the exact environment benefit would be but I suspect it would be huge if everyone did this.

Turkish Airlines has had membership with the Star Alliance network of airlines since April, 2008. Located in the Ataturk Intl Airport in Istanbul, Turkey, these airlines have more than fifteen thousand employees. Most recently, Turkish Airlines has received various prestigious awards. Because it offers the best quality of Economy Class flight food services on the globe, Turkish Airlines received an award for Skytrax. In addition, Turkish Airlines has been said to be the fastest growing airlines in Europe. Because of the number of years in a row that their profits have continued to grow, this honor should not amaze anyone.
US Airways and Turkish Airlines signed a codeshare agreement at the beginning of 2011. Codeshare agreements are legal contracts that allow two airlines to share passenger reservations with each other. This type of arrangement is beneficial for each airline and effectively expands both reach and revenue. Passengers also benefit from such agreements because they are offered a higher degree of flexibility in their travel plans, since there are more flights available, as well as better deals. Travelers going to Turkey or the U.S. will have a wider choice thanks to this codeshare agreement.
The latter part of 2010 Turkish Airlines signed a marketing partnership with Caroline Wozniacki, the women’s tennis player ranked world number one.
This level of brand recognition is a strong effort by the airline to be viewed seriously on an international level. Miss Wozniacki is specifically set to represent the airlines Business Class Service. The women’s number one ranked player will reach out to mainly European tennis lovers as the spokesperson for airlines. She will be appearing in various commercials and public relations events for the airline throughout her three year contract.
Comfort Class is a revolutionary travel concept developed by Turkish Airlines. This service is only offered by the airline on their new fleet of Boeing 777 airplanes. The level of comfort available is taken to a whole new level with seats that are almost 46 inches wide. Passengers basically have four feet of seat available to them for themselves and anything else they have with them on the flight. Remember though, that the Boeing 777 is a large aircraft designed mainly for intercontinental flights. Miles earned in the Turkish Airlines Miles and Smiles card can be redeemed for a ticket in Comfort Class or an upgrade to this class.
Since the Turkish Airlines have seen a steady run of very profitable years, they are in an sensational place to do what most businesses should be doing. The airlines have been displaying their marketing techniques by branding their business in a very international way. We have the opinion that this company moves fast and is ready to take over the very competitive market of aviation and flight travel globally. Not only has the company entered into plenty of sports celebrity contracts that will span over many years, but they have also been getting more planes and making more improvements.

The GM bankruptcy sent shockwaves throughout the entire United States. General Motors was the symbol of American economic domestic power and innovation. Unfortunately, times change and so does market demands. GM had slowly fallen on hard times over recent years and the mismanagement of its executives also contributed greatly to the problems.

GM Fritz Henderson is the current CEO of General Motors. He assumed his position in March of 2009 after previous CEO Rick Wagoner went down in American business infamy when the President of the Unites States ordered he be fired from his position after GM filed for bankruptcy. Wagoner had attempted to restructure the company in the aftermath of receiving several bailouts and loans. It didn’t work and the task moved to GM Fritz Henderson. Henderson, however, could not reverse the downward spiral and this should come as no surprise. The management of the company had been questionable for years. GM Fritz Henderson previous worked for the company as Vice President so it is curious why someone so linked to the GM bankruptcy would be tapped to run the company.

Have you been affected in 2009 by any of the following:

Shrinking 401-k

Loss of a job

Foreclosure

Underemployment

Living off of retirement savings

Loss of a business

Increased Debt Load

Bank Failures

These events and many more have happened with regular frequency during 2009.

Why did Sam Walton’s company go from a single local store to an international franchise? Is there a real secret to success, or were the stars just lined up correctly for such an occurrence?

Sam Walton expounded the buy low, sell low philosophy while others were just giving it lip service. Wal-Mart still pounds and oppresses their vendors to sell products at just above cost so they can, in turn, put those products on the market for less than everyone else. Making a little on a lot of volume makes for big revenues. It’s simple, if it’s done right.

There were additional problems GM faced and GM Fritz Henderson, Wagoner, and other executives were simply ineffectual in terms of their ability to handle these problems. The company was losing money from collapsing sales. Losses started to rise into the double digit billions. The company was quickly heading to insolvency.

These problems were compounded by various poor managerial decisions. Namely, a joint venture with Nissan and Renault proved disastrous. General Motors also poorly negotiated union contracts it was not able to afford. These problems further drained the company making a turnaround far too difficult.

How did GM Fritz Henderson, Wagoner, and others handle the problems? The answer to this is shrouded in mystery. A clear plan to reverse the problems with General Motors was never truly instituted. Attempts to sell the European wing of the company proved fruitless and further losses piled up. Eventually, the strategy arrived at was to accept a bailout loan from the federal government to avoid heading into bankruptcy court. The plan didn’t work and GM could not avoid bankruptcy filing. This essentially ended General Motors as far as it had previously existed and, ironically, it was also the start of GM Fritz Henderson as CEO.

The end of General Motors proved bittersweet. The GM bankruptcy allows the company to exist albeit in a radically different form. It has now been dubbed Government Motors and the name change truly is an end of an era

Hydraulics Pneumatics employ highly pressurized fuel or fluid to supply a mechanical motion. Pneumatics power is commonly employed in industries where the manufacturing facility machines have been generally plumbed to run on compressed air, although different sorts of inert gases may be used. I would love to get more information about hydraulic tubing here. Pneumatics are used widely in business, and can have applications in mining, building and even dentistry. Hydraulics is used for fluid energy and using pressurized liquid. Hydraulic topics vary thru many including, engineering and science disciplines overlaying dam design, pipe flow, river channel behavior and erosion.

Hydraulics deals with the mechanical houses of liquids, and is an implemented technological understand-how and engineering topic, and fluid mechanics specializes in the fluid houses and their engineering uses. Hydraulics are used for regulate and transmission of power the utilization of pressurized liquids.

Hydraulics and pneumatics both paintings by method of packages of fluid power (a fuel could additionally be a fluid). Hydraulics will often use from 1000 to 5000 psi, however other more specialized programs would possibly use or exceed 10, 000 psi. Pneumatic programs in most cases use a gas which is definitely compressible equivalent to a suitable natural fuel or air. Hydraulics use incompressible beverages akin to oil.

Each pneumatics and hydraulics work by compressing both fluids or gases and both have unique advantages. A few of these advantages are as follows.

Advantages for hydraulics can include:

o Hydraulic fluids are incompressible leading to little or no spring action.

o Drinks used for hydraulics do not absorb the supplied energy

o Higher loads and higher forces will additionally be completed because of incompressibilty

A quite common type of pneumatic gasoline is compressed air. The air is compressed by means of the machinery and can on a regular basis have a small amount of moisture, that’s got rid of by the equipment. Any leakage from such methods isn’t hazardous as it is just using air from the encircling environment. A few systems may use other gases akin to nitrogen, and this might be supplied from pre-crammed cylinders.

The solenoid idea could be easily explained, if we have been to describe the way a solenoid converts, by means of electric method, a undeniable form of energy. In different phrases, the solenoid is the thing which has the capacity to transform electric energy into mechanical power. This mechanical power is fully explored in hydraulics in addition to in pneumatics. The reason is truly easy to understand considering air and water, respectively, their commonplace power – pressure, is severely controlled with the assistance of a valve. In other phrases, the working concept is pretty much the same for both water and gas. As you’ll consider, there are variations between those {two} forms of flow and you’ll on an ordinary basis notice them somewhat well relating to physics. On the opposite hand, those unique features set the manufacturing concept for every of them.

For example, tube bending service produce other requirements than any solenoid air valve, although the capability of those gadgets has been evolved solely on energy release. At this aspect, this mechanical power is differently perceived in water situation and air condition. Given the entire following dissimilarities, which are inevitably surroundings aside hydraulics and pneumatics, manufacturers have one at a time approached the manufacturing process. This time too, air power and water power make the difference. It’s value stating that the resistance houses of the fabric are very important. For instance, the metal is broadly known as vulnerable to corrosion whilst exposed to humidity. This is why, manufacturers do away with from the very starting all materials that would possibly undergo such transformations. At the same theory, air solenoid valves are correctly adjusted to the air waft to be ready to exert a certain pressure or action over the valve. Generally, the fundamental fabrics utilized in hydraulics, as well as, in pneumatics, are brass, stainless steel and polymers ( a sort of plastic extraordinarily proof against leading physical shocks in addition to very top temperatures). As you can see, even though those fabrics are other in nature, they still share a not unusual feature-durability. In reality, sturdiness, in technical phrases, may be very comprehensive and, on this case, covers resistance to a major pressure, regardless if it is generated through water or air, and long term resistance to different elements, corresponding to consistent final and commencing operations.

All in all, the solenoid principle in hydraulics and pneumatics is similarly exploited to a definite volume, but, the moment very particular features of the glide are considered, the variations emerge.

In understanding the diversities between handbook, hydraulic, and pneumatic sealless gear, one has to keep in mind exactly what those equipment are. The definition is reasonably simple in that those tools are used to position straps round bundles of bins or different sorts of packages. They are on a typical basis strapped like this as a result of this stuff should be shipped to any other location. The straps keep them from turning over and destructive the goods or inflicting harm to someone who is also standing close to the stacks. That’s the place the selection among having a manual, hydraulic, or pneumatic sealless device comes in. Understanding the adaptation among the 3 can help a person decide which one is the such a lot efficient for their specific needs.

A guide sealless software can be used in each a business and a home environment. Being that it is handbook, it is precisely how it sounds. The person determines the period of the strapping and cuts it off manually. Where a few machines take a predetermined period and minimize them off themselves, the manual sealless instrument leaves all of it as a lot as the operator. Because of this even the tensioning is up to the user. Then again, they are very light-weight and can strap pieces horizontally and vertically. However, handbook tools are just right for those low volume jobs. It will possibly develop into slightly tiring.

As for the strapping, there are different sizes, this approach that that there are other size machines. What you’re strapping in combination goes to determine the type of strapping that you simply need. If you will be doing huge strapping operations, then you might also want to invest in one thing that may be more at the automatic side.

Hydraulic sealless equipment are the ones which might be meant for the bigger jobs. They contain air pumps that lend a hand them operate. They will require some guide paintings through the operator or they may be solely automatic. These are huge machines that can maintain consistent strapping. Anytime that a company has to strap massive orders that would in all probability not be ready to be manually strapped, the hydraulic sealless tool can maintain it.

Those machines will usually accept the several types of strapping. All that may be required is that they are modified according to the scale and weight of the thing that might be being strapped. This forms a powerful hold in order that the items don’t fall.

Pneumatic sealless tools don’t seem to be usually utilized in a home environment. It is principally used inside of a trade environment. It is ideal for strapping applications that are flat. It does not weigh a lot and it has an air motor that may retailer a large number of time while strapping these applications together. It may even alter the tensioning and is superb for strapping in combination such items as wood slats. It can be turned horizontally or vertically to strap and will actually be used within any surroundings that calls for flat pieces to be strapped.

Then in fact there’s the reality that there are several sorts of pneumatic sealless tools. A few use metal strapping with different widths and different thicknesses. What size strapping you want will resolve which pneumatic sealless tool you buy. On the other hand, what you are strapping is going to decide what sort of strapping you need.

The variations between the different sorts of sealless gear are quite glaring and the varieties of pieces being strapped and shipped are going to determine what type of sealless instrument is needed. The size and weight of the thing may be going to determine what kind of strapping is needed. This is important for each the safety of the items and of the folk operating round them.

The term fluid energy involves Hydraulics (Fluid beneath power) and Pneumatics (Air or Gasoline under force).

Allow’s center of attention on Hydraulics first as a outcome of it is a great option to get such a lot energy in a a lot smaller package deal than electro-mechanical means. Which is why it has grow to be so widespread within the business marketplace. For example to pressure a large system requiring numerous torque the use of an electrical motor, the motor might need to be very massive which is illegal, so the smaller electric motor is hooked up to a gearbox to extend the torque. Doing the similar with hydraulics simplest calls for a small pump and motor and extending the force to increase the torque.

Some main parts of a hydraulic drive bundle are the following: Hydraulic Energy unit, consisting of a reservoir, suction clear out, pump and electrical motor, relive valve to keep watch over force and directional keep an eye on valve to direct the glide to and from the using force whether or not it’s a hydraulic motor or a hydraulic cylinder.

There are other peripheral components that make this up however the ones listed above will all the time be had to make a complete system. I must indicate that the principle drawback with so much finish customers of any machine powered via hydraulics, is they never imagine the initial poor layout and loss of diagnostics to troubleshoot because the equipment malfunctions. That is the main reason I am providing you with this information.

This newsletter makes a speciality of the very fundamentals to lend a hand provide an evidence for why hydraulics is used so much in the commercial marketplace.I can produce more articles to supply a proof for how it works in detail.

Spending on construction in the United States, a critical economic industry, dropped throughout the first quarter. The construction market has been weak and is getting weaker as spending levels in February fell to twelve-year lows. Foreclosures and short sales are the primary culprit, as they stifle new home construction, the traditional driver for the entire market. Source of article – Construction sector continues to hold back more robust recovery by MoneyBlogNewz.

Construction: February is the cruelest month

Builders broke ground on fewer homes, apartments and government projects in February than they have in more than a decade. There was a 1.4 percent drop, or third month of drops, in the construction spending in February. construction spending was at $760.8 billion in February as a seasonally adjusted annual rate. That is the worst since October 1999 that the spending has been at. While other sectors of the United States economy have been showing signs of life, construction has been holding back a more robust economic recovery. There are fewer businesses wanting to build office buildings, hotels and shopping centers nevertheless even though the recession is over. Nevertheless, the construction sector has to deal with this. Half of the $1.5 trillion level that is considered “healthy” for construction was reached in February. The housing bubble that brought on the recession will not recover for four more years, in accordance with estimation.

Housing bubble also hurt new home construction

A 3.7 percent decrease in private residential construction occurred in February. It went down to $228.5 billion total. Single-family and multi-family construction both dropped due to a glut of unsold homes and record foreclosure levels. Until housing inventory can be cleared, new home construction will continue to languish. According to the National Association of Realtors, existing home sales fell about 3 percent in the past year, however new home sales have dropped 28 percent. New home sales went down from 301,000 to 250,000, a 16.9 percent decrease, in February which is the lowest level since 1963 when the government started keep track.

Nobody to purchase the new homes meaning nobody will build the new homes

In the construction industry, new home sales drive the growth that impacts the bottom line in Gross Domestic Product. The National Association of Realtors reports that right now, buying a new home is about 29 percent more expensive than an existing home, which isn’t normal. The industry is hurt a lot with foreclosures and short sales. These made up 40 percent of February home sales. Until the foreclosures on existing homes are cleared and the inventory of new homes falls, home builders have essentially taken a time-out. Financing was needed by 80 percent of builders before the recession. The National Association of Home Builders reports that this number dropped quite a bit. Now it’s at 20 percent.

The markets continued gains upon the unleashing of the Department that takes its name from Labor as it released a document on the state of employment on the day that occurs after Thursday. The acceptance of employees to the midst of businesses has been happening frequently, so much so that the economy at large has not seen such a gain of individuals getting up early and going to work and working all day and then going home since the last recession started. Historically, when joblessness goes down so do stocks, for numerous reasons so do not get too anxious about investing in the markets if too several individuals find the careers they have been looking for freaking ever. In other words, do not take out an quick installment loan to load up on stock just yet.

Careers and stocks in first quarter go up

The United States joblessness rate dropped from 8.9 percent in Feb. to 8.8 percent in March, the lowest rate in two years, in accordance with the Labor Department. In response, stocks rose across the market. A new high for the Dow Jones Industrial Average happened with a rise of 87 points to 12,406. The 0.7 percent increase means a new 2011 high. There was a rise in the Standard & Poor’s 500 as well. It went up 0.8 percent, 10 points, to 1,335. The Nasdaq composite rose 15 points to 2,796, a 0.6 percent gain. In February, there was a 194,000 increase in the number of workers on payrolls in the United States In March it went up another 216,000. In November, unemployment rate was at 9.8 percent, which it has continued to drop from since making the biggest, since 1983, four month decrease. The U.S. had the biggest first-quarter gain in the three months ending in March since 1998 in stocks. It went up 5.4 percent.

market and labor connection

Usually Wall Street is okay with layoffs occurring. This is because most investors believe a higher profit will come from smaller payrolls. The stock market went up in January 2009 when the labor market initially started to lose careers. A higher U.S. joblessness rate has been shown to be better for the stock market. In the past 60 years, this has always been the case. In accordance with Ned Davis Research, the S&P 500 mustered an average annualized gain of 13.5 percent when the unemployment rate was above 6 percent. Unemployment beneath 4.3 percent would mean a smaller increase. On average, the S&P 500 increase would be 2.1 percent. MarketWatch reports that in 2009, Ed Clissold of Ned Davis Research pointed out traders will do better with high unemployment as the stimulus the federal government puts out will help them on top of lower costs and high profit. Traders may also believe that by the time joblessness news hits the streets, stock costs have already been affected by job cuts and shares could be flipped for profit if they rise.

All of the traders don’t want jobs to get better like this

Stocks might have surged on Friday’s good labor market news not because unemployment has dropped however because it hasn’t dropped too much. Traders myopically chase short term gains and don’t consider long-term strategies. A rise the stock market, some traders believe, has only occurred because of QE2. This is the Federal reserve bond getting program. Many of them are worried the Fed will stop buying bonds in June when the QE2 program ends leaving them without the additional income. As the return of record profits and bonuses on Wall Street while average Americans have struggled has shown, what’s good for stocks isn’t necessarily good for the country. Americans may start getting employed again. This might be bad for the stock markets.

On the brink of financial collapse, unidentified banks were bailed out by the Federal Reserve discount window. The other day the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a Freedom of Information Act request the Fed had to expose which banks borrowed from the discount window and the way much was loaned. Data unveiled by the Fed Thursday shed light on how Wall Street’s meltdown spread damage around the globe.

Fed bank bailout

The discount window was created by the Fed a century ago to help healthy financial institutions caught in a cash crunch with short-term loans. When the Fed has to help out a financial institution, typically that bank’s identity is kept secret. This is because of the stigma surrounded by a financial institution that needs some help. There was a Supreme Court ruling that required the Fed to release this information though. This was due to the Freedom of Information Act allowing Bloomberg and Fox Business to file requests for information. Nobody was worried about the stigma anymore after the report was released Thurs by the Fed. This was because almost every financial institution in the world during the financial crisis needed a bit of help. More than 25,000 pages of documents show the Fed lent as much as $110 billion through the discount window in one day as the financial turmoil peaked.

Most borrowing occurred in European financial institutions

Wall Street financial institutions have taken most of the flak for government bailouts through the financial crisis. All of the details showed that European banks borrowed probably the most. The Fed report was clear about this. About $26.5 billion was borrowed by Belgian-French financial institution Dexia while $24.6 billion was borrowed by Dublin-based bank Depfa that German mortgage lender Hypo Real Estate owns on Oct. 29, 2008. There were other European financial institutions to get billions from the discount window. These incorporated France’s Societe Generale, Austria’s Erste Group and Bank of Scotland. It was still the biggest bank failure in history in The United States considering Washington Mutual, on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, had to borrow $2 billion as a weekend loan. The $2 billion loan could not be paid by Wamu Monday when it was due leaving the financial institution to keep applying for $2 billion overnight loans. This was until Thursday, September 25, 2008 when J.P. Morgan Chase took over.

United States not the only ones with a financial turmoil happening

When the collapse of Lehman Brothers in September 2008 triggered the financial turmoil, the global economy went into a tailspin, the financial system froze and financial institutions worldwide begged the Fed for help. Having all the discount window details information out there to see has shown the world just how bad the crisis was. The way it spread was also found. During testimony to a congressional panel investigating the financial turmoil in November 2009, Fed chairman Ben Bernanke said of all the financial institutions lined up at the discount window, only one was not at risk of total collapse. In the 2010 Dodd-Frank financial reform bill, it is required for the discount window lending information to be released however only two years after the loan has been released.

Accelerating technology is proving too much to deal with for the antiquated United States Patent and Trade Office. After being all talk and no action for years on patent reform, congress appears on the verge of overhauling a United States patent system that hasn’t changed since 1952. Job creation may be the ultimate benefit of patent reform that streamlines the approval process and gives the agency more financial backing.

Patent reform: “millions of jobs lying in wait”

There were 95 to 5 voted in the patent reform bill in Senate this month making it pass with flying colors. The House has decided to debate the patent reform bill. This is in its own version though. The House will probably not like the Senate version of the patent reform bill very much. All of the lawmakers agree a patent reform bill is necessary; the way to go about that is argued on quite a bit. An average three year wait for authorization is now standard while there’s a backlog of over 700,000 patent applications due to the six decades of technology advancements while the U.S. Patent and Trade Office has stayed the same. Wednesday, in a House Subcommittee testimony on Intellectual Property, USPTO director David Kappos said that “millions of jobs lying in wait” could possibly be stopped if the wait could possibly be shortened to about a year.

Other provisions the patent reform has

The USPTO gets about 500,000 patent applications yearly. That means lots of work processing. The USPTO budget and fees are all determined by Congress. Then, some of that revenue is not even used for patent purposes. There is one large change the patent reform would cause. The patent office would be allowed to not only keep all of the money it makes, but also to create its own fee structure. Kappos said the USPTO would have an additional $300 million a year to hire more staff and invest in a state-of-the-art patent review and approval system. Patent reform would also help keep patent disputes out of the courts by allowing the USPTO to look at commercially viable patents a 3rd party tries to invalidate, which is currently done through litigation. The most controversial aspect of patent reform might be changing the U.S. patent system from first-to-invent to first-to-file.

First-to-file provision a sticking point

In the patent reform, a first-to-to-file provision has been added. A number of people do not like this. Small inventors may not be able to benefit from the Senate version of the patent reform because large companies are able to file patent applications much easier than small inventors. Right now, the patent goes to whoever invents the product, no matter who filed first, which helps small businesses. The bill’s opponents also believe the third party review is just adversarial litigation by another name that will force smaller inventors to give up on their innovations due to the cost. Most expect that the USPTO spending budget increase will stay the same. Other than that, the rest of the Senate’s version is anticipated to go.
